Conflagration
The weekend of 26-27 February 06, the Queen Margaret Union was lucky enough to host the first ever ConFlagration gaming convention, organised by Glasgow University Gaming Society and offering roleplaying games, wargames, card games and board games. I was there to help make sure that the boardgaming activities went smoothly, along with another GUGS member (Michael).
The show kicked off Saturday morning with no difficulties. Saturday was a bit slow on the boardgaming front as only a few people joined us for games, but it was fun and we managed to play Louis XIV, Elfenland and Ave Caesar. There were a number of CCG tournaments run, and the first two games of the big 1000-point Warmachine tournament were played as well. I was unexpectedly roped into manning the reception desk for half an hour or so around lunchtime, which was good fun.
Sunday was much busier than Saturday, and lots of people showed up both to play boardgames and various roleplaying games being run. Both Static Games and The Dragon and George had stalls set up selling a variety of games. I personally was very happy to get to play Metro, which is a brilliant game that I haven't played in years, and also played several games of Lost Cities and helped teach a new player to play the excellent Call of Cthulhu CCG.
Other highlights included the final games of the Warmachine tournament, a very dramatic roleplaying session of the infamous "Celebrity Survival Island" scenario, and the nice folks from Contested Ground Studios doing a number of short and very successful demo games of their RPG A-State.
All in all, the con went really well from my point of view, and everyone who attended and helped to run it seemed to have had a great time.
