Settlers of Catan 2007 Championships

Congratulations to:

John Wilson the 2007 Scottish Champion; and

Hendrik Little the runner up.

Both won the right to represent Scotland at the 2007 World Settlers of Catan Championships in October 2007.

The 2007 tournament repeated the familar format:

  1. Four rounds of play;
  2. Each game had four players;
  3. Players were randomly allocated to boards;
  4. Each table in the same round used the same layout;
  5. The tournament points available were 10-8-6-4-2 with ties sharing equally;
  6. No individual scores were published until all the event finished;

Round by round

In round one the winners were were Donald Hosie, Natasha Hoise, Gavin Shearer and Chris Revie.

In round two the winners were Peter Donaldson, Hendrik Little, Sandy Ryalls and John Wilson.

In round three the winners were Andrew Durdin, Hendrik Little, Christina Schehle and John Wilson.

In round four the winners were Andrew Durdin, Natasha Hosie, Christie Shearer and Gavin Inglis.

The top five were:

1. John Wilson - 30 points
2. Hendrik Little - 28 points [by die roll!]
3. Andrew Durdin - 28 points
4. Natasha Hoise - 26 points
5. Gavin Inglis - 25 points

In last year's report I said: ...But there must be a special mention for Hendrik who consistently scores near the top but just fails to hit the first couple of places. Maybe next year Hendrik? Well, it may have been by the slimmest of margins - he won on a tie break die roll from Andrew Durdin - but he got there. Congratulations Hendrik and John. Commiserations to Andrew who took the result well. No doubt many of you are looking forward to next year for revenge!

I could not be there this year so a very special thank you from me to Jeff Jesner for running the show. And a thank you to the players for making this another great tournament. I hope you all had a good time.
