Settlers of Catan 2003 Championships

Congratulations to:

Colin McKenna the 2003 Scottish Champion; and

Philippa Dall the runner up.

Both won the right to represent Scotland at the 2003 World Settlers of Catan Championships in October 2003. [Colin McKenna was able to take part.]

The 2003 tournament attracted exactly sixteen players (whew!) so we had four rounds of four player games. Players were randomly allocated to tables. But each table in the same round used the same layout. This layout was generated before the tournament - and kept secret - being drawn from half a dozen possibles. We followed the standard tournament points system (10-8-6-4-2). One other change was that individual scores were not published. That way we hoped to avoid people ganging up on 'leaders.' It did seem to add an edge. Although how Colin McKenna managed to stop blurting out that he had won all his games was a real achievement.

In round one the winners were Colin McKenna, Philippa Dall, Alastair Leishman and Tim Humphries.

In round two Colin, and Alastair were joined by Leigh Martin and Paul Macleod.

In round three Colin, Philippa, Gareth Fotheringham and John Wilson were winners.

In round four, Colin, Sean McGinness, Fraser Lamont and Ellis Simpson were winners. [You can tell people were tiring!]

The top five were:

  1. Colin Mckenna - 40 points
  2. Phillipa Dall - 30 points
  3. Alastair Leishman - 27 points
  4. Gareth Fotheringham - 27 points
  5. John Wilson - 26 points

Time again for me to thank everyone. Running this event was a joy. No arguments. Good play. And a bunch of thoroughly nice people having fun. Well done to all of you. Thanks.
